Consumer Advocacy

Hearing loss and advocacy

Advocacy is a vital part of the benefits BHA provide to the community. Our input and expertise is sought by a range of organisations, including corporate and government bodies.

A critical aspect of that advocacy is ensuring real-life experience is conveyed to those shaping policies and strategies for the future benefit of those hard of hearing.

Where possible, BHA seeks out people with relevant lived experience to provide their perspective on life with hearing loss as sought by various organisations.

Consumer advocacy opportunities

Do you have lived experience of hearing loss?

As a BHA volunteer consumer advocate, you will have the opportunity to use your knowledge and experience to help shape our world.

We have multiple opportunities right now, including:

  • Working in partnership with Government and private consulting firms to make public transport more accessible;
  • Working with researchers and academic institutions on a range of hearing-related projects;
  • Supporting BHA Brisbane’s Board of Directors in shaping the future of BHA;
  • Improving patient outcomes in partnership with leading health providers; and
  • More…

All BHA consumer advocates are covered by BHA’s comprehensive liability and indemnity cover, receive volunteer expense reimbursements, and in some cases, may be paid for their time. Advocacy training and support are provided.
