Volunteering & Training

Volunteers derive a great deal of personal satisfaction from seeing individuals gradually overcome the serious problems of coping with impaired hearing. We would welcome you as a member of our team.

The Rewards of Volunteering

After the doctors and hearing aid specialists have done all they can, there is still a need for hearing impaired people to learn how to cope with their condition. Better Hearing Australia provides this service.

Want to become a Volunteer Tutor / Facilitator?

are you –

•  Prepared to become involved in a worthwhile activity?

•  Interested in people?

•  Wanting to help others while learning and developing yourself?

If so, you may be interested in training to be a BHA facilitator. Better Hearing Australia’s facilitators provide a valuable support service to people with impaired hearing.

In becoming a VOLUNTEER TUTOR for hearing impaired adults with Better Hearing Australia, there is no monetary reward but there is immense personal satisfaction.

Training to become a Voluntary Tutor / Facilitator

Many people have, over the years, taken on the role of tutor, and have found that the training course has provided them with a broad understanding of hearing loss, as well as a unique opportunity to help others.

The training program for BHA tutors is a structured course of 7 modules to be completed in the student’s own time, and there are no formal examinations at the end! Trainees study a range of topics to enable them to conduct sessions in an informal manner to assist people with impaired hearing. A final assignment is also required to pass.

The program is a practical one, with regular attendance at a group an integral part of the training.

Facilitators may, or may not, have a hearing loss, may be male or female, and may be young or heading towards the older age bracket! There are not too many stipulations, apart from having good English skills and clear speech, but we are looking for people who have some spare time, want something to challenge and extend them, and enjoy contact with others in a friendly environment.

Teaching of speech-reading and other aspects of hearing loss management can be a most stimulating form of part-time activity and a source of exceptional personal satisfaction.

If you think that you may be interested in becoming a tutor, please feel free to contact the organization to obtain information about what is involved on 07 3844 5065 or email bhabris@bigpond.com.
